Puerta del Sol

The heart of Madrid, known for its iconic clock, the Kilometer Zero and the statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, symbol of the city. This lively meeting point combines history and modernity, being the perfect place to start your tour of the main attractions of the capital. Here you will find a vibrant atmosphere, surrounded by shops, cafes and monuments that make this square a must-see on your visit.

Plaza Mayor

The origins of the square go back to the 16th century, when at the confluence of the roads (nowadays streets) of Toledo and Atocha, on the outskirts of the medieval town, the main market of the town was held in this site, known as “Arrabal square”, a first porticoed house, or market, was built at this time to regulate trade in the square.

Prado Museum

The Prado National Museum is one of the most important in the world, as well as one of the most visited. Its main attraction lies in the wide presence of Velázquez, El Greco, Goya, Titian, Rubens and Bosch, of whom it has the best and most extensive collections in the world, in addition to outstanding sets of such important authors as Murillo, Ribera, Zurbarán, Raphael, Veronese, Tintoretto or Van Dyck, just to name a few of the most relevant.

Royal Palace

The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the King of Spain, primarily used for state ceremonies, as the current Kings do not live in it, but in the Zarzuela Palace. With an area of 135,000 m² and 3,418 rooms, it is the largest royal palace in all of Western Europe. It houses a valuable historical-artistic heritage, highlighting the collection of musical instruments known as the Palatine Stradivarius, and very relevant collections of other artistic disciplines such as painting, sculpture, and tapestry.

Puerta de Alcará

The Puerta de Alcalá is one of the five ancient royal gates that gave access to the city of Madrid. It is located in the center of the roundabout of the Plaza de la Independencia, designed by the urban planner Ángel Fernández de los Ríos in 1778. At the intersection of the streets of Alcalá, Alfonso XII, Serrano and Salustiano Olozaga, next to the gates of the Retiro: Puerta, Puerta de la Independencia (main entrance to the Retiro gardens) and Puerta de Hernani. The originality of its construction lies in being the first triumphal arch built in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire, being a precursor to others such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.
